From wireframe to investable MVP

Property Platform MVP

About

A Healthcare & Life Sciences business working with Cloud Combinator on AWS. The client is anonymised at their request.

Challenge

The challenge had three focus areas.

Turning a design into a real product, fast

The client had a wireframe but not a working application. To gain investor traction it needed a tangible MVP that captured the core experience for landlords and tenants, delivered quickly and without unnecessary scope.

Building a foundation the team could own

The MVP could not be a black box. The client's technical lead needed to absorb the design decisions and continue development independently, so the work had to leave behind an understandable, extensible codebase and architecture.

A base that could scale with growth

The platform was aimed at a substantial first-year user base, so the foundation had to be able to grow from a MVP to a production service without being re-architected.

Solution

The MVP was built on AWS Amplify, a framework for building and hosting full-stack web and mobile applications on AWS. Amplify provides the front end and the back end together, so a small team can ship features quickly without wiring up servers by hand. User sign-in and accounts are handled by Amazon Cognito, application data is stored in Amazon DynamoDB, and files and assets live in Amazon S3.

30,000

First-year target users the MVP was sized for (projected)

Serverless

AWS Amplify foundation the team could extend independently

By the numbers:

  • 30% - Of the wireframed scope built into a working MVP foundation
  • 30,000 - First-year target users the MVP was sized for (projected)
  • Serverless - AWS Amplify foundation the team could extend independently
Changes

The engagement delivered the client a working MVP on AWS Amplify that realised the core of the wireframe, giving the company a real product to show investors and a foundation its own team could take forward.

  • Concept made realA wireframe became a running application covering the core landlord and tenant experience, giving the client something concrete to raise investment against.
  • Built to be handed overThe MVP was delivered so the client's technical lead could absorb the design decisions and continue development, not depend on us to extend it.
  • Serverless and scalableAWS Amplify, Cognito, DynamoDB, and S3 give a managed foundation that grows with demand and keeps early costs low.
  • Focused scopeDelivering the core of the wireframe as a MVP, rather than the whole system, kept the build fast and investable.
  • HandoverIncluded the MVP foundation and knowledge transfer to enable the client's team to evolve and scale the product themselves.

With a working MVP and an extensible serverless foundation in place, the client is positioned to raise investment and grow the platform towards its target user base, no longer just a wireframe but a product ready to support whatever the business takes on next.
